Post-Pixel Treatment

  1. For the 2 days following the procedure, apply a thin film of Vaseline or Aquaphor to the skin every few hours.  This may be alternated with application of a prescription healing cream called Biafine.  After 2 days, Biafine or a fragrance free moisturizer should be used every few hours.  If the skin is uncomfortable, continue with Vaseline or Aquaphor.
  2. You may use Tylenol or Advil for discomfort after the procedure.  Cool tap water compresses may be used for discomfort.  Sleep on an extra pillow to minimize swelling around the eye area
  3. If increasing pain, drainage, open wound, fever, or excessive swelling is present, call our office immediately at 781-416-3500.
  4. After a gentle treatment, flaking and redness may be seen for 3-5 days.  With more aggressive treatments, dark brown scales and a leathery appearance may be visible in certain areas.  Swelling may last up to 5-7 days.  Scrubs and exfoliation should be avoided for 7 days, but then can be used gingerly to help remove the dissolving brown age spots that appear to be flaking off the skin.   Glycolic, retinol, Retin A and Renova creams may be restarted after 7 days.
  5. Sun protection including SPF 30 sunscreen, and preferably a hat, are mandatory for at least 4 weeks after each treatment. To maintain your excellent results, these sun protective measures should continue indefinitely.
